A COUNTY WEXFORD couple had a great early Christmas present as they scooped a whopping €500,000 in the Euromillions lottery.
The winers, who wish to remain anonymous, matched five numbers and one of the two ' lucky stars' in the draw, meaning they were just one ' lucky star' short of winning the overall jackpot of a staggering €54 million.
They travelled to Lottery HQ in Dublin last week to collect their prize, and came home in the knowledge that at least Christmas shopping shouldn't now be too stressful!
The winning ticket was purchased on an earlier shopping trip to Carlow, when the couple called in to the Tesco supermarket at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre thre.
Manager of that Tesco store, Alan Coughlan, said staff there were delighted to have sold a winner.
He revealed too that this was not a new experience for him. 'I've been here in Carlow for only four months. Before that, I worked in Ballinbeg in Waterford, and we sold a winning ticket there too.
'Maybe I brought the good luck. Pity it's not rubbing off on me, though!'
