Three promotions to parish priest rank have been announced by Bishop of Ferns Denis Brennan in the latest batch of changes announced. A series of moves have been prompted by three retirements, leaving the way open for Fathers Donald Kenny, Brian Broaders and Donal Berney to be allocated parishes.
Those stepping down are Fathers Tony O'Connell (Rathnure), Richard Hayes (Cloughbawn) and Canon Patrick O'Brien (Kilanerin). Father Kenny will move from Gorey to take charge in Ramsgrange, with Brian Broaders moving from St. Senan's in Enniscorthy to Rathnure while Donal Berney will fill Father O'Brien's post in Kilanerin/Ballyfad after serving a stint at Crossbridge in County Wicklow.
Also on the move are Father Bernard Cushen who is being transferred from Ramsgrange to fill the vacancy in Cloughbawn/Poulpeasty. Father John Byrne takes the administrator title at St. Senan's in Enniscorthy where he will be joined by curate Father Patrick Banville who is on the move from St. Leonard's in Ballycullane, with Father Michael Doyle, previously posted in Ballyfad moving the length of the county to be the curate in St. Leonard's.
Father Matthew Boggan is transferred from Galbally/Ballyhogue to work as curate in Gorey, while Father Robert McGuire is assigned to Galbally from Poulpeasty.
The changes come into effect on August 3. Father Martin Doyle, curate in the Wexford town parish of Clonard, has already released from diocesan work to take up further studies in the United States.
