Wexford's hurling All-Ireland captain of 1996, Martin Storey, is being nominated by the Labour Party to take the seat on the County Council that was vacated by the recent death through illness of Enniscorthy's Pat Cody.

Storey has admitted that he will have a lot to learn about local politics, but said he was driven to take up the seat because of the close friendship he enjoyed with the deceased Cllr Cody.

Cllr Cody had worked with Martin Storey for almost 20 years as the pair were psychiatric nurses on the staff of St Senan's Hospital.
