St. Michael's Parish mission opened by former gangster

A FORMER gangster opened the Parish Mission in St. Michael's Church, Gorey, last night, Monday.

John Pridmore, ex-London gangster and international best-selling author of the book 'From Gangland to the Promised Land' spoke about his life which went from the streets of London to working with people such as Mother Teresa, and becoming a friend to Pope John Paul II.

The Mission continues until Friday, December 14, with Masses daily to Thursday at 7.30 a.m. and 10 a.m. and evening sessions from Monday to Friday at 7.30 p.m.

The money John made from his life of crime bought him the classic gangster lifestyle of fast cars, designer suits and a string of beautiful women. He underwent a dramatic life-changing experience after nearly killing a man outside a central London nightclub. Since he has travelled internationally personally speaking to over 2.5 million people warning young people about the dangers of gang and drug culture.

At six foot five with a shaved head, Pridmore looks more the hard man than motivational speaker but he leaves a deep impact on the young people he meets. Forty-six year-old Pridmore served two prison sentences himself and went on to become a feared enforcer in the London underworld.

The Mission is presented by St. Patrick's Community.
