Pettitt's plans €1.5m revamp

PETTITT'S SUPERVALU is embarking on a major development programme and is set to invest €1.5 million in revamping one of its stores.

Planning permission has been granted for the revamp in Athy and work will start in January 2013. The first phase will be completed by mid March 2013, and the second phase will be completed by September 2013.

Pettitt's Supervalu Athy is part of the Pettitt Group which has six Pettitts SuperValu Stores (Athy, Arklow, Gorey, Enniscorthy and two in Wexford) as well as three hotels (The Talbot in Wexford, The Talbot in Carlow, and the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin).

Pettitt's first started trading in Athy in November 1987 and are celebrating 25 years in Athy this November.

Siobhan O Keeffe of Pettitt's said that the work has gone out to tender among local builders, and the work will provide a significant jobs boost for the construction industry.

The work will see an expansion of the footprint of the store, and the company hopes to be in a position to take on additional staff thanks to the expected increase in footfall in the expanded store.

'We know times are tough but we have confidence in the store in Athy,' said Siobhan, adding that they will try to minimise disruption for customers during the work.
