MOVES by the ESB to ensure security of power supply to Enniscorthy resulted in major roadworks in The Duffry/Bellefield area of the town.

The power company blamed excavations which damaged cables for a series of recent blackouts.

Work to lay fresh underground power lines has been carried out by contractors over a period of weeks.

Among the properties affected was the Bellefield GAA complex with one entrance to the pitch blocked during the dig.

'There was no major disruption,' said Rapparees/Starlights secretary Maria Nolan. 'Everything went alright.'
