Courtown hotel sells for close to €300,000

DEAL DONE WITH LOCAL BUYER

COURTOWN should have two hotels back in operation by next summer, after it was announced that the Courtown Hotel has been sold to a local buyer.

The Bayview and Ounavarra Hotels closed several years ago, and the Courtown Hotel closed and boarded up in more recent years, meaning just one hotel, The Taravie Hotel, remained in the centre of the busy seaside resort.

Local tourism bosses are hoping that the reopening of the Courtown Hotel, and the occupation of the vacant Ocean Point apartments in the coming year will help attract more people to the area.

Auctioneer James Kinsella of Sherry Fitzgerald O'Leary Kinsella confirmed that the Courtown Hotel has been bought by a family from the Gorey area, and that they hope to refurbish it and have it open by next summer.

The hotel was sold by a Receiver with an asking price of €300,000. While the sale price hasn't been disclosed, it's understood that a figure close to the asking price was achieved.

The sale also includes the adjoining Johnsville House. A separate property, The Mews with five apartments, is currently at the sale agreed stage with a separate buyer.
