Basic pay and other extras

ALL COUNTY councillors receive a yearly salary of €16,724 plus a €2,300 basic travel allowance and €440 a month for out-of-pocket expenses.
The basic amount which a councillor who attends all statutory meetings, is entitled to claim annually is €24,304.
If a councillor does not attend a meeting due to illness or another reason, a deduction is made from the €440 monthly payment.
Members who serve as chairman or vice-chairman of the Council are paid an extra allowance of about €18,000.
A councillor who serves as vicechairman receives a payment of approximately €6,000 extra.
Those elected to chair Strategic Policy Committees also receive extra annual allowances, ranging from €2,500 to €6,000.
Members of the County Council are entitled to claim travel expenses over and above the basic allowance, depending on the amount of travel they do.
They are also paid expenses if they travel to conferences at home and abroad.
Councillors who also serve on Wexford Borough Council or New Ross, Enniscorthy or Gorey Town Councils, receive separate extra payments, including allowances and expenses.
