Jan Becker, a sixth class pupil of Scoil Mhuire Horeswood is one of only six primary school pupils nationwide to win a place in the Newgrange Chamber.

There were 30,000 entries in the Winter Solstice Art Competition organised by the OPW and with a waiting list of 800,000 applications to get a place in the chamber on this very special occasion, Jan's prize is envied by many.

For the competition Jan submitted a mixed media fabric and fibre piece of Newgrange symbols.

He is absolutely thrilled to be a winner and on the day he will meet Minister of State Brian Hayes and join him for breakfast in the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre after the solstice viewing and he will also be presented with his framed entry to mark the occasion.

His parents Tina and Philip Becker of Landscape plan a family outing on the day, however only one adult will get to go inside the chamber with him.

His teacher Ms Brady and his classmates in sixth class and all in Scoil Mhuire hope the sun is shining brightly on the 21st!
