A SPECIAL night will be held in The Courtown Hotel on Sunday, October 27 next, to raise funds for a special child.

June Hoey from Killenagh is calling on everyone to turn out for a Halloween Charity Fancy Dress Night in The Courtown Hotel, to raise funds for the Help Finn Walk Fund.

This is a fundraiser for the four year old son of June's niece. Finn Dempsey, who lives in Dublin with his parents Claire and Michael Dempsey, was born at 29 and a half weeks in 2008.

He had a traumatic birth, and had a bleed in his brain that resulted in him being diagnosed with quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, which means the part of his brain that controls his gross motor skills doesn't work as it should, and he doesn't have proper control of his arms and legs.

Irish doctors classified him as having a minimal chance of improving his position, so the family sought further advice abroad. Last year, Finn was lucky enough to start working at a clinic in Toronto, Canada, called Health in Motion.

Their goal is to help Finn lead as normal a life as possible, and they intend getting him strong enough, with the help of physiotherapy, so he can be suitable for a spinal operation to remove his high tone - the rigidity in his arms and legs. The operation is called a Spinal Dorsal Rhizotomy, and it will be performed in St. Louis in the United States.

Donations will go directly to help with Finn's physiotherapy and operation, and all donations, large or small, are appreciated.

'He's a lovely little fella, and he loves his dog Sophie,' said June. 'This operation to help him walk is not available in Ireland.'

'It will be a great night,' she added. 'The Courtown Hotel is laying on food, and there's a fancy dress disco on the evening.' For tickets, contact 087 9382456, or The Courtown Hotel. Tickets are €10, and the fun starts from 9 p.m.
