The weekly 30 Card game

The weekly '30' Card game continues in the Community Centre this Friday 20th September at 9pm. There is €220 in prize money to be won each week. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Catering on 20th will be: Ann Booth, Nancy Lambert, Peggy Gethings & Betty O'Shea Catering the following Friday 27th September will be: Maureen Bradley, Kathleen Delaney, Denise Harler. Proceeds going to Parish Funds.

CARDS

Card winners on Friday 6th were: Sean Cullen, Johnny Nolan, Lena Whelan, Bridie Dillon, Mick Kehoe & Mick Hanlon.

VINTAGE HARVEST DAY

All roads lead to Adamstown this coming Sunday 22nd September for the 11th Annual Vintage Ploughing and Old time Farm Threshing. The sit for this year's event is about 400meters from the village, on lands kindly given by the Rothwell and Mooney Families.

With the support of the local Shamrock Vintage Club, it is expected to have around 40 ploughmen from all over the Southeast competing in the various Ploughing competitions which will commence at 12 noon (sharp). All competitors are requested to be on site at 11.15am.

The organizing committee also plans to have a display of Vintage Cars, tractors, motor bikes and old machinery. Everyone is welcome to take part in the display; a trophy will be presented to each exhibitor at the parade. The highlight of the afternoon for many will be the old time farmyard threshing. There is No admission charge, but the Committee would appreciate it if you could be as generous as possible with your donation.

We ask parishioners for donations of cakes, confectionery for teas, also if you would like to donate vegetables etc, they will be most welcome.

Festival weekend will commence with the HARVEST THANKSGIVING MASS on Saturday night 21st September at at 7.30pm in St. Abban's Church. All welcome.

STRICTLY CLUB DANCING

St Abban's Adamstown GAA Club is hosting a Strictly Club Dancing competition in conjunction with Rathgarogue Cushinstown GAA Club. The official launch will be held in the Horse and Hound Hotel on 20th September.

There are currently ten couples participating on behalf of St Abban's Adamstown GAA Club. Four couples will go through from the Club round to the Grand Final. Adamstown's Club round of the Strictly Club Dancing competition will be held on Saturday 16th November in the Horse and Hound Hotel. The Grand Final with Rathgarogue Cushinstown will be held on Saturday 7th December in Adamstown Ballroom.

In advance of the club round, each couple will be holding various events to raise funds. Some of the forthcoming events hosted by dancers are as follows:

An Irish night in Foleys Pub on Sunday 15th September hosted by Charlie Bradley from 5pm to 8pm. Admission €5.A Golf Classic on 4th and 5th October in Scarke hosted by Des Redmond. Teams of four cost €100 including food. Fantastic prizes. Free draw for all participants. Prize giving and raffle in Horse and Hound Hotel. To book in a team contact Des on0862374705.

'Dance the Night Away' from 9pm to 2am in the Riverside Park Hotel Enniscorthy on Saturday 12th October hosted by Scratchy Doyle. Waltz, Jive, Quick Step, Salsa, line dancing and ballroom. Admission €8 per person or €15 per couple. Tickets available from Joan on 087 1852949, from Hotel Reception and on the door on the night. Spot prizes and Door prizes.

A fun table quiz in Cullens Pub on Saturday 19th October hosted by Michael English. Details of all events will be publicized over the next few weeks. The dancers and the Club would welcome your support.

SYMPATHY

We extend our sincere sympathy to Marian and Peter Kelly, and family on the death of Marian's brother Paddy Kehoe,(Kehoe Plant Hire),Ballycross, Bridgetown. To his wife Ann and children, his mother Alice and all the family our sympathy also. Paddy was aged 61, his funeral Mass was celebrated in St. David's Church, Mulrankin on Thursday last with burial in the new Cemetery, Kilmore. May he rest in peace.

CASTLE VINTAGE CLUB

The Dick Williams Memorial tractor run is being held on Sunday 6th October, leaving Taghmon Community Centre at 11am. There are great spot prices including 2 nights B&B and 1 evening meal.

CLONEGAL/ KILDAVIN

CLONEGAL AWARDED GOLD

It was announced in the Helix Theatre in Dublin onMonday 9th Septemberthat Clonegal once again achieved another "Gold Medal" in the Tidy Towns Competition.

The Clonegal Tidy Village Association is thrilled with the result. To be awarded four Gold Medals in four successive years is truly a great achievement. Great credit is due to all the members of the Tidy Village Association who worked so hard throughout the summer to have the village looking in pristine condition.

Also great tribute must be paid to the entire community who supported all the work with painting, planting, digging, weeding, providing lunches and lots more. "Four in a Row" is a culmination of all the work and development that has taken place in Clonegal over the last 20 years. Thank you to everyone.

GAA LOTTO

The Kildavin/Clonegal GAA lotto was held in Dunne's Lounge on Sunday 8thSeptember. There were no winners for the jackpot of €2,500. Numbers drawn were 4, 18, 19 and 28. Winners that matched three were, Andy Ryan, Myshall, Cora Coleman, Kildavin, Bridie Hayden, Kildavin, Cathal and Áine, Craanmore and Sinead Gray, Clonegal. Seller's prize goes to Jim Treacy receiving€50. Winners of the attendance draw: Willie Fitzpatrick, Shem Roberts and Tony Jackson.

The winner of last week's draw, Una Murphy, Clonegal, was presented with her cheque with a sum of €10,000 by committee members PJ Kavanagh, Johnny Dunne and PJ Conway. Next draw will take place at in Ryan's "The Moss House", Bunclody on Sunday 22ndSeptember 2013 with a jackpot of €2,800.

MASS AT THE MASS ROCK

Mass will be celebrated at the Mass Rock in Drumderry on Sunday 15th September at 6.00pm to mark this Year of Faith.

SONG AND STORY

The House of Song and Story takes place on Monday 16thSeptember at 8.00pm in St. Brigid's Community Hall. All are welcome

VETERAN PLAYERS GROUP

The Clonegal Kildavin Veteran Players group are overwhelmed with the interest being shown in the Social Dance in The Spellman Hall Kildavin next Saturday September 21st. Dancing is from 10pm to 12.30am and music is by Adrian Ryan the well- known accordion man.

VILLAGE GARDEN

The official opening of "The Village Garden" in Kildavin will be held on Sunday 29th September at 2pm by the current Carlow Rose. All welcome to attend.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY

A bullaun stone (traditionally known as a holy water font in this locality) was discovered by the voluntary restoration committee during work at the Yewtree Graveyard, Balisland. This discovery is recorded by the National Monuments Services on their sites and Monuments Database website. The Yewtree Graveyard and its existing bullaun (font) are already listed by the Monuments Service. CLONROCHE/ POULPEASTY

PANTOMIME SOCIETY

Pantomime season is gathering momentum in Clonroche Community Centre. Off to a great start with Auditions last week, Cast member are now busy learning their scripts ( we hope !) and we had a fantastic response to our young people and dancers meeting and they too are have completed their first dance routine.

A Text message service is now in place to let parents know about rehearsals, please ensure you give your name to Teresa or Venie to be included on the list.

Thanks to all who have volunteered to help in any way, we will be calling on your services over the coming weeks. Don't forget to keep these dates free Tuesday December 3rd to Sunday December 8th, except Friday December 6th.

CONGRATULATIONS

Welcome in to the parish baby Ava Maria Tyrell, daughter of Oliver and Tracy Tyrell Poulpeasty. Ava was christened in Poulpeasty Church on Saturday September 7th.

SET DANCING

GOLF SOCIETY

Martin Furlong won in Carrigleade on Sunday with an amazing score of 42pts, followed in 2nd by Nickey Walsh with 37pts and Martin Walsh 3rd with 36pts. John Dreelan won the Birdie money and Tommie Donohoe won Nearest the Pin.

CAMOGIE CLUB

Congrats to Aidan O' Brien, Raheen who was the referee the All Ireland Intermediate Camogie Final between Galway v Limerick in Croke Park recently. Aidan had his usual team of umpires Larry Dunne, Tommy Kelly, Declan Ffrench, and John O'Brien.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

The annual church gate collection in aid of " The Friends of the Severely Intellectually Disabled" will be taken up on Saturday & Sunday September 21st & 22nd at Cloughbawn Church .

IRISH DANCING

The Murphy School of Irish dance have now recommenced classes after a very successful year, this year the class added another 3 All Ireland titles with Stephanie Kehoe winning the Mean Grad U19 award, Aideen Cummins winning the Ullmhchan U16 and Chloe O'Neill been crowned the all Ireland award winner under 8.

The class also went on to compete in one of their most successful world championships, Moesha Dreelan was placed 5th, Amy Doyle was placed 3rd and Nikita Buckley was placed 14th with huge numbers competing against them.

The class went on to take home 29 world medals. The class also took home a number of crystals from both the World Irish Dance Championships and the All Ireland's.

On top of all the competitions Team Murphy had a great year performing at many venues throughout the year, they also got the opportunity to be involved at breaking the Guinness book of records "longest line".

Classes will now start to take place for the 2013/14 year. Classes are run by Qualified teacher Emma Murphy ODCRN, and Angela Murphy who is currently training for her teachers. Raheen Family Resource Centre is searching for volunteers to help out with the following projects: working with older people, youth, women's groups, etc. if you would like to help with these projects or if you have skills you would like to share, we are looking for you.
