TWO SPECIAL little girls were fondly remembered in The Lodge, Carnew, recently, as the Aoife and Aine Kennedy Memorial Fund held a thank you night to pay tribute to everyone that has supported the charity over the past five years.
The girls' mother Caroline estimated that in the five years since the Fund was set up, over €100,000 has been raised for various good causes. In fact, a substantial cheque will be presented early in the new year to the new A&E Paediatric Room in Wexford General Hospital.
The memorial fund was set up in 2007 in memory of Aoife who died tragically in a traffic accident on November 5, 2006 in Carnew. The charity was renamed ' The Aoife and Aine Kennedy Memorial Fund' in 2010, after Aine's tragic passing due to culture negative sepsis triggered by a febrile seizure and it continues to work in their memory.
'We just wanted to thank the public for supporting us and being there for us over the five years,' said Caroline. 'At midnight, we released 20 helium balloons, and sang Aoife's favourite song "On Eagle's Wings". We released 20 balloons because Aoife would have been 12 and Aine would have been 8 in December.'
A Monster Raffle held on the evening was organised in support of the Ben Kelly Fund, for a local youngster who recently underwent a successful kidney transplant.
Music was provided on the evening by Martin Lacey, Arizona Dawn, and Tuaisceart Loch gCarman CC. Thanks were sent to all the sponsors and supporters especially Stafford's Bakery, CJ O'Loughlins and Tesco for the food on the ngiht, and all those who gave raffle prizes.
More fundraisers are already being planned for the New Year.
