Teens turn on the style in Youth Factor
Oylegate Community Centre was a hub of activity recently as youth groups from all over Wexford gathered to take part in the 2014 FDYS Youth Factor.
The annual competition sees youth clubs from all over the county compete with the hope of going on to fly the flag for Wexford in the All-Ireland finals in Kerry this June. A total of fifteen acts took to the stage and one of the organisers, Mark Carley from the FDYS, said that the youngsters put on a great show.
'It went really well,' he said. 'Each of the youth groups have been preparing for this themselves since around Christmas, so it was great to see all their hard work come together. The adjudicators said that it was an extremely closely run competition this year and that the standard was really high and while we had some wonderful winners, it's more about participation for us and getting young people involved and developing their talents.'
The evening's entertainment was divided into three categories - song, dance and performance. Going on to represent Wexford in the national final in the song category will be Lucy Doyle from Bree Youth Club. Oylegate Youth Group took the title in the dance section, while Ballgarrett Youth Club impressed the judges most in performance.
Mark also said that if anyone is interested in getting involved with their local youth group, more information can be obtained at www.fdys.ie/youthclubs.
