CEO of Talk to Tom, Ray Cullen, was in Yorkshire last week giving a course on suicide prevention.

Ray had been invited to Yorkshire by Colum Farrell who has just set up a new Suicide prevention charity based in Kirkstall in Leeds.

Mr Cullen outlined the main action to help someone attempting suicide should be Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR). Over 8,000 people in Britain die by suicide per year. 81 per cent male and 19 per cent are female. But five times as many females attempt suicide than males.

The course on suicide prevention was held at Huddersfield Irish Centre. This was attended by 25 people from around the region. This was the first time this has been done in Britain.

Local coordinator for the Huddersfield area was John Lamb of Huddersfield Irish centre. John said he was pleased by the response and the full attendance.
