St Michael's Place plan is rejected

Fintan Lambe

Wexford County Council has refused planning permission for a two-storey commercial building at St Michael's Place in Gorey.

DJ Fitzpatrick Consulting Engineers had applied for permission to demolish the existing two-storey dwelling at 6 St Michael's Place, and to replace it with a two-storey commercial structure comprising a retail unit on the ground floor, and office space on first floor level, as well as pedestrian access to the rear public laneway.

Several residents in the locality submitted observations highlighting various issues, while the planning inspector also noted the extension of the building to the rear over two stories would be overbearing on neighbouring homes.

In refusing the application, Wexford County Council said that 'having regard to its overall height, scale and mass, it is considered that the proposed development would seriously injure the residential amenities of the adjoining dwellings by reason of overshadowing and overbearing.'
