Skittles tournament nets €2k for Hospice service

Fintan Lambe

A two-day skittles tournament at Goslin's pub in Ballycanew resulted in a sizeable cheque being presented to North Wexford Hospice Homecare last week.

The event played at the front of the pub on Ballycanew's Main Street, was organised by James O'Brien and proprietor Phil Byrne, and involved 16 men's and five women's teams.

Preliminary rounds were held on the first day, with the semi-finals and finals drawing crowds the following day. In the end, Patsy's Princesses triumphed in the men's competition, and the Stuffed Muffins won the women's semi-final. They then went head-to-head in the final battle, and the Stuffed Muffins took the honours and the Jimmy Kavanagh memorial cup. Jimmy, who passed away last October, was well-known and loved in the village and is sadly missed.

The weekend raised €1,900 for North Wexford Hospice Homecare, and coins from a bottle of spare change collected in the bar boosted the total by €230.

Sincere thanks went to the companies that provided team sponsorship or gave raffle prizes. Phil sent a sincere thank you to all who supported what is hoped will be an annual event.
