PINK or red were the main colours of choice for the volunteers who took on a new look for the recent 'Shave or Dye' fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society.
Ten local women spent the day in Hair Couture in Craanford, being transformed all in the name of charity. Those who got a new colour were Lisa O'sullivan, Mandy Kearns, Edel Redmond, Geraldine Southern, Caroline Hussain, Joy Mulhall, Anke Isler, Freda Husain, and Nasreen Hussain, while Linda Kearon had her head shaved.
They then spent the evening doing the rounds of local pubs, including Cooney's in Craanford and Hollyfort; Jack's Tavern in Camolin; and around Gorey, collecting sponsorship.
They were delighted to report that they raised €2,400 for the Today FM fundraiser, and thanked everyone who supported them. ' We had a brilliant response,' said Linda Kearon. 'Everybody was very generous, and thank you to everyone who donated to such a good cause.'
Meanwhile, an initial count of some of the money raised at a fundraising day at Xtravision Gorey came to an impressive €460, while sponsorship and other donations still remains to be totted up.
Most of the staff at the store submitted their hair for dyeing on the day, and they also held a fun day at the store for customers as part of the fundraising efforts.
Local businesses generously donated prizes for a raffle, and face painting was also offered. An Xbox FIFA tournament also provided entertainment and added to the funds on the day.
The organisers thanked everyone who attended on the day and supported the event. Thanks also went to the local businesses that donated prizes, and those who took part in the hair dyeing. Thanks also went to Xtravision Headquarters for their support.
