YOUNGER MEMBERS of Gorey Pipe Band accounted admirably for themselves at the recent Leinster Solos Competition in Palmerstown, Dublin, bringing home honours to Gorey.

In the Under 12 Drum Pad Competition, Scott Murphy came third, while his brother Zach came fourth.

In the Under 14 Solo Drumming Competition, Shane Flood ( 9), came third, and in the Under 16 Solo Piping, Ciaran Flood took first place in a very high standard competition. In the adult section, John Cullen took part in the solo novice piping competition. All members were delighted with the results as the standard in all the competitions was very high, with members from bands from Northern and Southern Ireland as well as Scotland, taking part.

The band members put in long hours practising for the competition, and were congratulated by their fellow band members on their success.

Arthur Bass didn't take part on this occasion but did a great job preparing them.

Next Sunday, December 9, is the band's annual 'Lunch with a Difference' in the Naomh Eanna GAA Complex.

Tickets are €10, including lunch and a dessert. Children eat free. Santa will be present and lots of entertainment will be laid on for the afternoon. The band will also do a few recitals. Tickets are available from any committee member or by phoning John Cullen on 087 2662041.
