TIMES might be tough financially, but locals and holidaymakers in Morriscastle dug deep this summer to raise funds for a very deserving cause.

Fundraiser Eddie Sinnott was delighted to report that a boat push and benefit night he organised in August raised a whopping €9,850 for Rosslare RNLI Lifeboat.

'It was over €2,500 up on last year,' he said. 'The crew from Rosslare Lifeboat couldn't believe it.'

The money was handed over at a function in Kilmuckridge at the weekend, and thanks were sent to all who contributed to the sum raised.

Over 20 people pushed a boat, and collected with buckets, all the way from Kilmuckridge to Morriscastle Beach. There, they were met by Rosslare Lifeboat, and the crew were brought ashore by Cahore Inshore Rescue Service to meet the crowds on the packed beach.

'It was a lovely day and we had great support,' said Eddie.

The funds were boosted later in the day when the 32nd annual benefit night was held in Hammel's in Kilmuckridge, and again the venue was packed. 'A huge thank you to all who took part, helped out, sponsored us, to Hammels, and all who donated,' said Eddie. 'We couldn't do it without them.'
