THE YEAR of The Gathering provided the perfect opportunity for 85 members of the Murray clan from Monaseed to hold a family get-together.
There are 51 surviving Murray first cousins, and most of them made it along to the gathering which was held in The Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey recently.
Cousins travelled from Nottingham, Liverpool, Galway, Wicklow, and elsewhere, for an enjoyable meal and music.
The family originates from Knocknagapple, Connahill, Monaseed. Paddy Murray had eleven children, and one, Willie, remained at the family home with his wife Alice.
Willie is now deceased, but Alice still lives there with her son Pat and his wife Mary. The cousins were all children, nieces and nephews of Willie and Alice.
Family photographs from Paddy's time at the house, and down through the years to the present day, were displayed on the big screen. Thanks were sent to all who helped make the event such a success, with special mention going to the hotel owners Paddy and Tommy Redmond, who were there, as they are cousins as well.
