Festival of Choirs
The inaugural Festival of Choirs will take place in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, on Friday, May 5, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.45 p.m. to raise funds for the North Wexford Hospice Nursing Trust.
There is no entrance fee but donations will be taken at the door. The choirs taking part include: Gorey Choral Group; Gorey Men's Choir; Enniscorthy Choral Society; Silvertones, Enniscorthy; Inver Ladies' Choir, Arklow; and Bella Voce Choir, Ballygarrett. There will also be solo performances by Stephanie Furlong and Annette McCarthy from Ballygarrett.
All are most welcome along, and entry is on a first come first served basis.
A benefit night will be held in the Loch gCarman Arms, Gorey, on Friday, May 5, from 9 p.m. to 12 midnight, in aid of Parents and Friends of St Aidan's. Music by Tommy Carroll. Door prize and raffle. Tickets are €5 each. All welcome.
The 33rd annual Week of the Elderly runs from May 8 to 12. The line up is as follows:
Monday, May 8: Official opening by Rev Cheryl Patterson at Courtown Golf Club at 8.30 p.m. Election of King and Queen.
Tuesday, May 9: Storytelling at The Mill, Craanford. Refreshments will be served.
Wednesday, May 10: Evening at St Columba's Club, Gorey. Guests from Ballygarrett will attend. Following refreshments, a waltzing competition will take place.
Thursday, May 11: Outing by coach to Shekina Garden, Glendalough. Visit to Avoca Handweavers. Dinner at Arklow Bay Hotel before returning home.
Friday, May 12: Ecumenical service in Gorey Methodist Church at 8 p.m. Tea and sandwiches followed by a talent competition.
Monday's bus leaves the Permanent TSB at 7.30 p.m.
Tuesday's bus leaves from the XL shop, formerly Centra at 7.30 p.m.
Thursday's bus leaves the Community School car park at 10.30 a.m.
The last date for full payment for the Spring Break will be May 5. You can call into the Loch gCarman Arms on Fridays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Call in for a coffee meet your friends You can still pay membership fees on Fridays. New members are always welcome.
A solo show by Gorey artist Patrick Redmond, 'Whispering to the ground', is running at The Molesworth Gallery, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2, until May 20. All are welcome to call in for a look at the works.
The North Wexford Historical Society will host a talk by Siobhán Pierce on 'Last Letters from the Congo and Irish involvement in the UN' in Gorey Library on Thursday, May 4, at 7.30 p.m.
All are welcome to join. For non-members, the cost is €5 and members are free. This talk concludes the winter series of lectures. Summer tours start soon.

The annual barbecue in aid of North Wexford Hospice Homecare takes place on Saturday, May 13, in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey. Tickets at €25 are available from any committee member or from James Tomkins Garage, Gorey.
The Courtown Lifeboat shop is open seven days a week, Monday to Friday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. It offers a selection of souvenirs at sale price. All funds raised go towards helping to save lives at sea.
The Sue Ryder shop in Gorey welcomes donations of clothes, good quality bric-a-brac and small items of furniture.
Agnes of God
Before the All Ireland Final performance in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone, on Sunday, May 7, Bunclody Kilmyshall Drama Group will give local audiences a final chance to see its play 'Agnes of God.'
The cast will perform the acclaimed show in St Brigid's Hall, Carnew, on Thursday, May 4, at 8 p.m.
On April 11 Theresa Hughes organised a card night in aid of Operation Smile, raising €715 for the charity. Operation Smile works in developing countries to provide children and young adults with cleft lip/palette with free surgeries. Special thank you to Theresa and everyone who generously supported on what was a great fun night.

A charity whist will be held in Leskinfere on Tuesday, May 2, at 8.30 p.m.
Gorey and District Lions Club is holding a fundraising, static cycle on Friday, May 28, in Gorey Shopping Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Why not show your support for us and pop up on the bike for a couple of minutes?
This fundraiser provides the club with much needed funds to help those in the local community, who are experiencing difficulties. 100 per cent of all money raised is put back into the community in Gorey and the surrounding areas. As always the continued support of the community is very much appreciated.

Symphony of the Soil film
On Tuesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in Gorey Library Bernadette Lacey will introduce 'Symphony of the Soil' a beautifully filmed documentary about the precious nature of soil, how it is made, how essential it is for the ecosystem we live in and how it is being slowly but surely degraded and denatured by human activity. She will also discuss how we can change this by changing our practices in relation to our soil.
Classic Russian play
Anna Danilova will facilitate a discussion on the classic Russian play, The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol, in Gorey Library on Tuesday, May 2, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. All welcome - booking essential.

Summer bridge will take place from Wednesday, June 7, until Wednesday, August 30 taking place every Wednesday night. The bridge will be played in the Boxing Club in Gorey with play starting at 7.30 p.m. sharp. All welcome.
The Tom Byrne Art Group will open its exhibition on Tuesday, May 9, at 7 p.m.
The exhibition which takes place in Gorey Library runs until Friday, May 12. The exhibition is by a small group of people with disabilities who live in the local area and is known as the Tom Byrne Art Group. The exhibition will be opened by Pat Whelan, formerly of ESB Enniscorthy. All are welcome.
