Frustration over empty Dunnes Stores premises

Enniscorthy councillors are looking for a meeting with Dunnes Stores over the company's long abandoned shop in Rafter Street.
The subject was raised by Cllr. Jackser Owens and town clerk David Minogue shared the frustration of the elected members.
He revealed that he was working to allow window dressing of the premises to improve the appearance of a property which was once the heart of retail in Enniscorthy.
Councillors were unaware of the current condition of the interior of the store which has been closed for at over seven years. Cllr. Owens suggested that it might be a suitable location for an indoor market. The owners have advertised the shop as being for rent.
Town manager Tony Larkin said that there was no scope for action against Dunnes under dereliction legislation for leaving the place empty.
