The recent 'Art in the Open' painting day in Enniscorthy not only produced a batch of fine art but also raised money for a good cause. The fruits of the labours of artists from all over the world are now on show at the Presentation Centre at Nunnery Road in the town.

Denis O'Connor – director of suicide counselling service Console – attended the opening of the exhibition and received a welcome cheque for €1,510. Art in the Open event manager Alma Hynes explained that the money was donated by artists who took part in a quick draw session in Market Square and by the crowd of interested onlookers.

The works on show, mainly landscapes, are selected from the work of 180 artists who took part in the sixth annual gathering. They came from 13 countries, including 23 artists from the USA.

The exhibition of paintings, all of which are available for sale, remains open to view free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays to Saturdays until September 21.
