Gorey student wins award for audio report

A FOUR minute report on alcohol and sport saw Gorey Community School student win a national award and an Android Tablet.

Michael Dwyer won the 15-17 audio category in the Let's Talk About Drugs National Media Awards.

The competition encouraged entries from all age groups to create video, animation, article and audio pieces on the theme of 'Alcohol and Sport - who's the real winner'.

The competition, which was organised by Greater Blanchardstown Repsonse to Drugs, drugs.ie, and the HSE, received 270 entries.

Michael won his category with a four-minute news-based piece, which featured interviews with local people like Molly McGuckin, Eddie 'Heffo' Walsh, and Ollie Gogarty.

As well as the Android Tablet, Michael received glass trophy and certificate.

The audio section was judged by well-known Newstalk broadcaster Henry McKean. The awards ceremony was held at the Aisling Hotel in Dublin and the guest of honour was Minister for Primary healthcare Alex White TD.
