Ashbourne -- The club would like to thank all our members and supporters for their help and support throughout the season and wish everybody a happy and safe Christmas.
On St Stephen's Day Ashbourne RFC will be holding a fun run/walk from the clubhouse at 2pm, assembling at 1.30. It will be in aid of the Ashbourne Meals on Wheels and the local Special Olympics organisation. If you have nothing else to do come along and have an enjoyable afternoon in aid of good causes. There will be soup and sandwiches on your return. There will also be a seven-aside game of rugby between Ashbourne and our returning Exiles at 3pm. Ashbourne RFC is also please to announce that it will be hosting the three women's internationals in the New Year. Ireland fac England on Saturday February 9th at 2pm and France on a Friday night in March, the exact date to be confirmed.
And Ashbourne has now been awarded a pre-championship game against Spain on Sunday January 20th, which will also be refereed by club referee Helen O'Reilly. This is a great achievement for the club and one we are proud of. Our underage girls rugby teams train on Wednesdays at 7pm. We are fielding at under-14 and under-16 and all new players are welcome. The club is delighted to have two girls selected for the Leinster Under-19 panel and we wish Ruth Moore and Deirdre Kennedy the best of luck in this adventure. This is a great achievement for the club as the girls are only playing for the last 12 months.
Ashbourne's senior team matches recommence on the weekend of January 4th and training continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm and is open to all newcomers. Look us up on www.ashbournerugby.ie. The club has a strong team of referees, but if you have an interest in becoming involved in refereeing we would love to hear from you and will discuss the opportunities as well. Without referees there will be no rugby. Our Youths and Minis meet on Sundays at 11.30am and all are welcome at the club grounds.
Following on a successful year last season there is a wide range of teams and our development programmes are geared towards developing all types of players. They are fielding all the way up to Under-17s and new members are always welcomed. Contact Scotty at 086-3795876 for more details about Youth, Mini and Girls rugby if you are interested.
