ROGANSTOWN Hotel & Country Club were delighted to welcome the USA All-American Rugby XV to the hotel on their eight-day training camp recently.
The team is picked from more than 15,000 students in the United States and is the cream of university talent in the country. Rugby is increasing in popularity in the United States which was evident with the spirited performance of the men's senior team in the World Cup 2011.
This squad is seen as a key stepping stone for the players to develop as full internationals, and with the experience of looking after other international squads Roganstown was chosen to host the team. The hotel had to adhere to strict diet requirements and prepare special menus during their stay. As well as a dedicated training and recovery schedule, the squad played two games against Connacht and Leinster XVs and whilst the American visitors beat a very strong Conncht team in Galway, they came unstuck against a big Leinster squad in Greystones.
The team were also treated to a game at Croke Park during their stay in the Fingal area and plans are already in place for further American teams to visit Ireland.
