THREE local charities have reasons to be cheerful after they got a cash windfall thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Rolestown Inn Golf Society.Every year the society runs a huge fundraising drive with a charity outing at Swords Open golf course who very generously provide the venue for the outing each year with thanks to Denise McLoughlin and her team for that gesture. This year, more than €7,000 was raised and recently cheques were handed out by the society to three worthy charities who split the funds raised on the day in ceremonies at Kettle's Country House Hotel and Roganstown Golf Club. Mick Gleeson, society captain and the secretary of the society, John Slater were there to hand over the cheques to Prosper Fingal, St Paul's Special School and St Francis Hospice. John Slater told the Fingal Independent that the society has a long relationship with St Francis Hospice and the other two charities were chosen for their involvement with members of the local community in Rolestown. A very grateful Freda Reid received a cheque for €1,250 from the society's secretary and captain while Gene Murphy collected a €3,000 cheque for St Francis Hospice. Thanks to the society, Prosper Fingal, who were represented by Pat Reen, can also add €3,000 to its coffers. Credit is due to the society committee and members and to Swords Open Golf Club and Kettle's Country House Hotel and all the supporters of the annual event as well as the many golfers who took to the tee in support of the charity drive.
