Wherity lands title in Meath

AFTER a lapse of many years, it was great to see Navan Road Club put their shoulder to the wheel and revitalise the Meath County Cycling Championships which were held on Sunday at Navan and very well supported over all age categories.

David Wherity from Stamullen M Donnelly won the Senior A1 race and his clubmates Craig Sweetman and Gary Gorman had a one-two in the Veterans event, while fellow Stamullen riders Patrick Gibbs and Sean O'Connell were third in the Under-16 and Under-14 races respectively. Victory in the Under-12 event went to Stamullen's Luke Coll, with Emmett Gorman in fourth spot. With the drawing in of the nights, the curtain is about to come down on the 2012 cycling season, with relatively few events left on the Yearbook. It has been a tremendous season for clubs in the North East and not a single week went by without local cyclists picking up prizes in all category races. Cyclists however are asked to please keep Saturday 22nd September at 11am free, as the Martin Donnelly Charity Cycle (Suicide Awareness) will be taking place at Clonee in Co Meath. This will be a relatively short cycle rally over a flat circuit and as many people as possible are asked to get involved and support this rally for a very worthy cause. Please contact any member of Stamullen M Donnelly Road Club for further details.
