MALAHIDE native Conor Sammon is celebrating today after being named in a Republic of Ireland senior squad for the first time.Sammon is joined by Portmarnock's Stephen Ward in the 27-man squad for the friendly with Poland in Aviva Stadium on February 6th. The 26-year-old former Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock, Derry City and UCD striker has scored six goals in 27 league appearances for Derby County since joining them from Wigan for £1.2 million and has previously played for his country at Under-21 and Under-23 level. Meanwhile, Shaun Williams played a major part in a bit of history last Tuesday night by scoring a penalty as MK Dons reached the FA Cup fourth round for the first time. The former Sporting Fingal captain netted as the League 1 highflyers knocked out Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in a replay. But there was disappointment for Portmarnock's Stephen Dawson, who was to undergo a scan yesterday after limping out of Barnsley's draw at Ipswich with suspected ankle ligament damage.
