PORTRANE recorded an impressive away win over Swords Celtic on Saturday with Robert Mahon recording a hattrick for the away side.Stephen McDermott had opened the scoring for Portrane when he converted a rebound after the Swords 'keeper had done well to keep an initial effort from Ciaran Lyons. Robert Mahon then extended Portrane's lead with a left footed effort, and then doubled his tally with a superbly struck volley. Celtic were to pull one back to trail 3-1 at the break before a corner from the right was deflected in off a Celtic player to restore Portrane's three goal advantage. And having netted 42 goals for the club last season, Mahon then completed his hat trick with a superb lob over the keeper to maintain Portrane's terrific start to the season. Speaking after the match, Portrane coach, Dave Mahon, was delighted with his charges. 'We are doing very well, sitting third in the league. We are delighted with them because we were hoping just to stay up this year. 'It's a very competitive league and it's been an eye-opener for the kids.' Portrane's work at underage level has also been recognised up at the Oscar Traynor Complex. Robert Mahon, Ryan Downes and Sam Dolan have been called up to NDSL U10 squad while Stephen McDermott and Adam Greene are on the U-11 squad, a first for the club in both cases.
