DAVID Rowe's men made an impressive start to their Ned Behan Cup campaign with Joey Fagan on song for the home side.

Rowe who took over the team from Dermot Dalton this season has certainly kept faith in the passing game which served the Fingal men so well last year. With midfield general Dean Whelan giving a consummate display in the centre and Daniel Corcoran unflappable in defense, Portmarnock had the foundations to lay an early siege. And following two accomplished finishes from Fagan, the forward then completed his quick hat-trick when he fired in off the post. Having come off the bench Ben Hackett, Portmarnock's leading striker from last year, let fly from inside the box, before Whelan added the fifth. And then Gavan Dalton made it six when he scored off his weaker foot. Mid Sutton to be fair made a decent go off it in the second half, but with Finn Soltiffe Byrne a good presence down the right for Portmarnock, the home side was never in danger of relinquishing their lead.
