SKERRIES Harps played their final home game of the season on Saturday evening last.
With both sides in contention for a promotion play off spot, this was the proverbial four-pointer and in the end, Harps were clear winners after a tough physical game. Playing against the wind, Harps led from the first minute when team captain Donnacha Reilly pointed after Graham Cullen was fouled close in.
Harps were clearly on top from early on and although Reilly was wide from three subsequent close in frees he was twice involved in the move which saw Barry Davey goal after 10 minutes. Cullen and Daly were then both guilty of missing goal chances when driving wide from close in. The visitors then had a good spell but Harps went in at the break leading 1-5 to 0-7. An early run by Barry Davey saw his shot tipped over when a goal was on and Harps drove on to lead by four midway through the half with Dawson finding his range.
They secured the points when full forward Mark Boylan netted superbly in the 40th minute after a towering catch and turn. Skerries final two games are away to Erins Isle and Kilmacud Crokes second team.
