Doherty at the double

Published 04/09/2012 | 18:16

HYDE Park continued their good start to the season as striker Joey Doherty scored a goal in each half for the Balbriggan men.

Doherty already has three goals from three starts, and with strike partner Ryan McMahon due to return soon, Hyde Park supporters have plenty of reason to feel encouraged. After a hard-earned draw against Mid Sutton two weekends ago, Hyde Park went in front just before the break when Doherty had a clear run on goal and shot low to the bottom corner. Fairview then equalised shortly after the restart, before Doherty grabbed his second with an audacious overhead kick following a good cross from Fran McNulty.

But Fairview, who lost to Swords Celtic on the opening day of the season, levelled on 75 minutes to keep in touch with league leaders Enniskerry.

HYDE PARK: Adrian Harford, Ger Sweetman, Rob Halligan, John Richards, Dominic Buckley, Darren Sweetman, Jonathan Marry, Danny Baxter, Jason O'Neill, Joey Doherty, Fran McNulty.
