FOLLOWING the recent Motor Cycle Union of Ireland Annual Conference, Balbriggan man Damien Tolan has been elected to the top office, that of President.Mr Tolan follows in the footsteps of another Balbriggan man, Sean Bissett, who has held the office a number of times. Damien has been involved in Motor Cycling Ireland, the Southern Centre of the MCUI, for more than 20 years, and has held various positions in that time, and he is still the licence registrar for all the adults that compete in events. Along with that busy job, he is also the Southern Centre Secretary, the convenor of the Road Race Committee, and convenor of the Road Race Commission, which is the all-Ireland body supervising road racing. And to top of all that, he is the registrar of the road race championships in the South. A delegate for the Athea club, Damien says he is looking forward to his year in office. 'I am delighted to have been elected to the office of President, and to be honest I never thought that I would rise to the top of the MCUI when I started off in the sport more than 20 years ago. 'I look forward to attending as many events as I possibly can during the year, and I am delighted that Motor Cycling Ireland had the faith in me to nominate me to the top position in the MCUI. 'I will hold the office for one year, and in that time I have to chair mini conferences or special MCUI meetings that arise during the year, and attend various presentations during that time.'
