THE newly formed Milverton off Road MCC held their first-ever event with an open practice day at Balcunnin, Skerries, last Sunday, and despite the bitter cold day the club were delighted with the response.

'We have 45 adults and eight youths and we are delighted with the turnout,' said Emma Kavanagh. There was a mixed attendance of road and off-road competitors, some of whom have never taken part in an off-road event before, and everyone that I spoke to were enjoying themselves. 'The field is great and the grip is also very good,' said Irish champion Moto X rider Shane Mulligan. Irish Road Race champion Andy Farrell was also enjoying his first Off-Road event. 'It's great craic, a little different to what I'm used to, and thanks to Thomas O'Grady for some advice. I started to ride the course right, but to be honest I am hurting.' Another road racer, Derek Scuffil, was also in new territory, and he said: 'I bought a bike recently to keep myself fit, and it is the first time I have ever done something like this. It is great craic.' The club would like to thank John and Liam Fynes for the use of the field, and Hugh Maguire and Thomas Garry jnr for their help with the event - not forgetting those who travelled to the event and helped out with marshalling. Keep 'er lit!
