Fingal need Rock-solid performance

Published 13/11/2012 | 12:54

FINGAL resume their battle against relegation from Division 1 of the Leinster Hockey League when they host title contenders Three Rock Rovers next Saturday at 1pm.

John McInerney's team put up a great showing against mighty Banbridge in the Irish Senior Cup the weekend before last, eventually going down 2-1, and he will be looking for a performance of similar substance at ALSAA. After losing eight of their first nine league games, Fingal occupy the relegation play-off spot at the half-way point in the season, three points ahead of Avoca who have lost all their games and five points adrift of third-bottom Glennane.

However, this week's opponents Three Rock are on a roll, having lost only once all season, and anything but a victory for the away side would be regarded as a shock result.
