SWORDS Team Millsport crew chief Martin Gallagher and the team have announced that Lee Johnston will be with Millsport Racing Ducati in 2013.

He will race the team's 1199 Panigale as well as a new Supersport bike, supplied by Phil Reed (East Coast Construction). Johnston will also contest the British Superstock Championship and race at the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix. This season was the start of a new project for the Ballymoneybased Millsport team, competing with the new Ducati 1199 Panigale.

The package proved competitive, with a second at the NW200 and at Donington Park in the British Superstock championship - only getting pipped by 0.0001 of a second in that race. They also had success at Dundrod, with Lee taking two wins. Next year the team will have more assistance from the factory and Ducati UK. Team Manager Patrick Murray said: 'We are delighted to have Lee with us for the 2013 season as he has proved he can be at the front in the road races as well as the competitive British Superstock championship.

'We have made massive steps with the new bikes this season and with new parts and the data we have got through this year it will mean we hope to be competitive from the start of the season.' Johnston added: 'It's great to have next year's deal done as the team and I have proved to be a package that can push for the top step! 'This year has been a learning year for us with the new bikes, but we are going in the right direction and with a testing programme through the winter planned we should be on the mark come the first round of the championship.'
