Bracken's Molly bows out of All-Ireland championships
It was the battle of the two Mollies in the National Stadium on Friday last as Bracken boxer Molly Bennett bowed out of the All-Ireland Girls Championships.
Competing in the Girl 2 53kg division, the local starlet was up against Mollie Sheppard from the Rathfriland club and it was the County Down girl who started strongest, coming forward with six-punch combinations.
Bennett settled into the contest in round two, though, changing tactics as she opted to move to the outside to stay clear of her opponent, while landing left and right hands of her own.
Sheppard certainly wasn't having things all her own way and Bracken felt that round went to their boxer.
In the final round Bennett held the centre of the ring, but in the final minute Sheppard launched a series of jabs and right hands and, being a southpaw, might just have caught Bennett off-guard.
Ultimately, the verdict went to the Rathfriland girl, but the Bracken coaches were still very proud of Bennett's performance.
