BALBRIGGAN'S Late Night League initiative has proven hugely positive for local youth and when the town took its place in the citywide finals of the league, it came home with a trophy.
Garda Dave Sheeran and Garda Kate Daly Ní Bhroin brought three teams to Irishtown Sports Facility recently to take part in the Garda/FAI Late Night Leagues, citywide finals.
The competition was open to the winners of all the 58 centres running the Late Night Football League.
Community Gardaí Sheeran and Daly Ní Bhroin have been running the initiative in Balbriggan with FAI development officer Paul Keogh for five years and it has proven to be a huge success.
The initiative runs for a period of six weeks, twice a year in Balbriggan with the winners of both the junior age group (12-15) and senior age group (16-21) going on to play in the citywide finals.
The initiative is open to all youths living in the town and takes place from 9pm-11pm on every Friday of the six weeks at Glebe North Football club.
Teams of between five to eight players play six-minute matches and points are awarded throughout the league. The senior team representing Balbriggan won the Europa League and were presented with medals and a trophy by Garda Assistant Commissioner, John Twomey on the night.
