Swords heritage and nature walk
MEMBERS OF the public are invited to come along on a heritage and nature walk around Swords on Sunday, September 2, where some fascinating and often forgotten facts about the town will be imparted to all who take part.
If you are interested in tagging along, meet with your fellow walkers at the Castle Town Park main gate at 3 p.m. on the day. Do you know Brian Brou was waked in Swords? Did you know that Swords Castle was once the residence of the Archbishop of Dublin? Have you heard of Coolbanagher or do you know where Hollow Lane is? These are just some of the questions that will be answered on the walk and talk.
It will start at the town park and continue along the river walk to Church Road and up the Brackentstown Road to the entrance of the River Valey Park. From there, the group will travel along the Ward River Linear Walk to the Jacko and returning to Bells Lane and on to the Forest Road to the finish at St Colmcille's Well. After the walk, local Historian Bernadette Marks will give a talk on the History of Swords.
