ONE OF the most innovative environmental groups in the county has been recognised for its efforts in the community of Skerries in the Fingal Cleaner Community Awards.

Sustainable Skerries have won a special award for Best Environmental Initiative which recognises its work in getting Skerries Allotments and the town's Community Harvest Group up and running, among other initiatives. Reacting to the news, the group said: 'The commendation noted the Skerries Allotments, the Community Harvest Group, our work with the Transition Year students in the Community College, the water conservation work and work on improving community resilience. 'We're absolutely delighted to receive this award, it recognises the hard work put in by our volunteers in the past three years. 'Making our community sustainable and resilient is rewarding work, but it's also great craic. With the volunteers we have in our group, I'm sure the craic will continue for a long time to come.'
