RUSH ATHLETIC is mourning the loss of a giant figure in the club's history with the passing of Charlie Armstrong, affectionately known as 'Mr Rush Athletic'.
harlie lost his battle with cancer this week and will be sadly missed by everyone involved in the club and the wider community in Rush. Glebe FC manager, Liam Kelly, played at schoolboy level in Rush with Charlie and paid a warm tribute to the soccer-mad Rush man. Liam told the Fingal Independent: 'Charlie was a huge influence for me when I was growing up around Rush and he still came to all the Glebe games and this is a devastating loss to Rush Athletic and the whole town. 'I was only with him the other day and it's hard to imagine that he is not going to be around. 'Charlie was Mr Rush Athletic and the club has lost its biggest and most charismatic person it has ever had. 'It will take some getting over this and our thoughts are with the family at this time. Hopefully they will get through it.'
