Rail services withdrawn

Published 22/01/2013 | 15:15

THREE mid-morning services along the northern commuter line are being withdrawn due to low passenger demand, it has emerged.

Iarnrod Eireann introduced a new timetable on Sunday and although largely unchanged, one off- peak return train between Balbrigan and Connolly Station has been axed. The 9.44am service to Connolly, which operates Monday to Friday, and the return 10.50am, which operates Monday to Saturday, has been cancelled. Also the 9.40am train from Pearse to Balbriggan on Saturdays has also fallen foul of the revisions. An Iarnrod Eireann spokesperson said that these off-peak services were lightly used and customers would be accommodated on alternative services. ' These changes are being proposed to maintain the vast majority of services while reducing operating costs. The online public consultation is in place to ensure we get the widest possible level of feedback. 'We would encourage all customers on these routes to take a few minutes to look at their route and the proposed changes, and to let us know what they think.'
