Plans for new access point at advanced stage

WORKS to provide a new access to Malahide village from Malahide Demesne through lands owned by the council and currently housing a local authority depot are at an advanced stage.

That is according to Fingal County Council in response to Cllr. Eoghan O'Brien, who asked: 'when will a pedestrian walkway linking Malahide village with Malahide Castle visitor centre and Avoca be completed and open to the public?' The council said: 'Works are at an advanced stage in the provision of the new pedestrian link though the Parks and Heritage Properties Depot area to Malahide Castle and Gardens. ' The depot area is screened off and secured from the public.

The main outstanding works are the lighting of this route and some minor surfacing works so as to provide a secure surface under foot for visitors. ' The Architects Department reports that these outstanding works will be completed by the end of November. Upon completion, this access will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from October 1 to March 31 and to 8 p.m in April and September and until 9 p.m. from May 1 to August 31.'
