A SWORDS motorist who was caught drink driving while disqualified from driving was given a four year driving ban, a four month suspended sentence and fined €1,000 at Swords District Court last week.
Tomas Klebonas of Boroimhe Ash in Swords pleaded guilty to drink driving on July 2nd at Applewood Drive in Swords. Garda Pamela Harte told the court that she observed a vehicle driven by Klebonas drive past her. "The car was swerving all over the road," Gda Harte said. She stopped the car at Applewood Drive and Klebonas got out of the car and was unsteady on his feet. He was arrested and brought to Swords Garda Station where he refused to give a sample to the doctor. Klebonas, who was previously disqualified from driving in 2011 for three years for a similar offence, is 32 years old and a father of two children. His solicitor told the court that there is no explanation for driving the car while under the influence of alcohol. 'He understands the seriousness of it and it won't happen again,' said Klebonas' solicitor. Judge Dermot Dempsey noted that Klebonas 'appears to have a problem with drink'. He convicted Klebonas and fined him €1,000, disqualified him from driving for four years and gave him a four month suspended sentence and bound him to the peace for two years.
