More than 80mm of rain fell in two days

OVER 80mm of rain fell over September 24 and 25, which caused some heavy flooding in parts of Rush and Skerries.

According to Fingal County Council, an initial weather warning received from Met Eireann on September 23 which indicated that between 25mm and 40mm of rain was scheduled to fall the following day. A revised forecast was issued at 11am on September 24 indicating that between 25mm and 50mm or rain was scheduled from 12noon on September 24 and 6pm on September 25.

A reading from the council's nearest station indicated that over 80mm of rain fell between September 24and 25. ' The kind of persistent rain which fell put serious pressure on the surface water system and did result in serious flooding at some locations,' the council stated.'Many of the land drains in rural areas were saturated after the wet summer and naturally caused considerable flooding on roads in Rush, Skerries and Lusk in particular.'
