Alan Joyce (19) of Hampton Wood Park in Finglas pleaded guilty before Balbriggan District Court to the robbery of the the iPod on August 10 last year.
He walked up to the 14-year-old victim on the train from Gormanston to Skerries and tried to grab his iPod. He then punched the young boy a number of times in the face causing severe bruising and got off the train in Balbriggan with the iPod.
Gardai located him on Balbriggan Beach a short time later in possession of the stolen iPod.
Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy told the court that the 19-year-old had a difficult upbringing because his mother was physically abusive towards him. 'He doesn't have a drink or drugs problem,' Ms. D'Arcy said.
Sgt Tighe said the victim was left badly bruised and traumatised by the incident and that it is 'not something he will get over easily'.
Following receipt of a Probation & Welfare Report, Judge Dermot Dempsey remanded Joyce on continuing bail on a Probation Bond for six months when he will review Joyce's progress in complying with all terms of the bond.
