GERMAN supermarket giant Lidl has withdrawn its planning application for a second store in Swords.
Lidl, who already have constructed a store on the Rathbeale Road near JC Savage's supermarket, (pictured) confirmed the withdrawal of their application in a letter to Fingal County Council.
Tony Bamford Planning, acting on behalf of Lidl Ireland GmbH, informed the council of the withdrawal of the application by stating 'We have been instructed by our client to withdraw the above planning application forthwith.'
The proposed development had caused some concern for local residents living on and near the Dublin Road with several people adding that the proposed development would 'not add to the peace and enjoyment' many of the residents are currently experiencing at the location.
Other observations included one from the Lord Mayor's Pub which stated that the proposed development would have a 'detrimental effect on the viability and vitality of the core retailing areas of the town, contrary to the development plan of Swords.
