Labour councillor calls for by-election

A LABOUR councillor has called on Deputy Clare Daly TD to resign her Dáil seat and fight a by-election under her new party banner of United Left Alliance after her shock resignation from the Socialist Party.

Cllr. Ciaran Byrne (Lab) has called on Clare Daly TD to resign from Dáil Eireann and fight a byelection for her seat in Dublin North. 'Not only did Clare Daly win her seat under the banner on the Socialist Party from which she has now 'resigned' but she has done so in favour of a political alliance with a fellow TD whose companies failed to pay circa €2 million in tax. This directly and comprehensively contradicts the platform on which she was given a mandate by the people of Dublin North in the last general election,' Cllr Byrne said. Cllr. Byrne went on to say that Deputy Daly has built a political career on her promotion of 'people power' so it is now time for her ' to put her money where her mouth is and let the people of Dublin North judge her behaviour in office'.
