IN the same week that Swords has been identified as having a greater housing need than any other major town in the country, one of area's biggest property developers has announced he is to build 500 homes in the Fingal capital.
Gerry Gannon of Gannon Homes, has announced his firm is to build 500 new homes in Swords. Gannon Homes is developing housing schemes at Miller's Glen and Mooretown in Swords. The development at Mooretown could eventually see as many as 1,300 homes built over a number of years.
The homes will arrive in the nick of time to go some way to satisfying overwhelming demand in Swords which is in the grip of a housing crisis.
A report issued last week from the Government's Housing Agency, identified Swords as having the greatest need for new housing over the next five years, anywhere in the country outside of the major cities.
The housing needs report revealed that at least 1,448 new homes have to be built in Swords over the next five years to cope with growing demand.
That is just a minimum demand and according to the Housing Agency, does not take into account 'pent up demand' already in the system, meaning Swords will need even greater numbers of new homes than these figures suggest.
